Until 27 April 2008. “From Gilgamesh to Zanobia” at the Royal Museum of Artand History at the Cinquantenaire features art and antiquities from the Middle East and Iran from VII century BC to III century AD. Exhibits include a bas-relief representing the hero Gilgamesh from the Neo-Sumerian epoch and a stone carving of the warrior queen of Palmyra, Zanobia. Conceived with an eye to the current political situation in the Middle East and Iran, the exhibition underscores the importance of the East in determining Western culture, from the origins of writing and the system of accounting to laws and science as well as religious and moral beliefs. Works on show are part of the Royal Museum’s collection with an additional 12 masterpieces on loan fromn the Paris Louvre. Admsiision €3-€7. Tues-Sun 10.00-17.00.
